about

As the title suggests, this is a collection of songs I wrote with the intent that they would be in the background of gameplay for some type of video game. Composing from this mindset put forth a multitude of new challenges and questions I had to ask myself. "Would this music distract the player from the game? Is that a bad thing? Is this section too drawn out and boring?" Finding the balance between engaging and distracting was something I was always conscious of while writing these pieces, and in the end I'm very pleased with the results.

I've played video games pretty much as long as I can remember. I remember sitting on the floor in the family room watching my brothers play Jak and Daxter on the PS2. I remember the year we got a Wii for Christmas, and played hours of Wii sports. I played hours and hours of Xbox 360 games in middle school, and hours and hours and hours of Playstation 4 games in high school. Now I've finally become a PC gamer and still stay up way too late playing games, and talking with friends on Discord. All of those years of playing games went into the making of this album, but I wasn't directly inspired by many game soundtracks. Instead, I drew inspiration from some of my favorite game worlds - the overall feeling you get from playing a game and exploring it's unique universe. Some of the games that most directly influenced the soundscapes on this album are (in no particular order) Stardew Valley, the Mass Effect Trilogy, No Man's Sky, Elden Ring, Risk of Rain 2, Cyberpunk 2077, the Borderlands games, Abzu, Nova Drift, The Elder Scrolls IV and V, and Hotline Miami.

I also drew inspiration from the game worlds I was creating in my head as I composed the music. It would be my dream to have some developer/game designer hear this album and make a game using some of my music. I want to inspire people to create from these songs.

Finally, if you've read this far, thank you. Thank you for caring enough to read all the notes I wrote, and to listen to my music. I hope you get hours of enjoyment out of this record, and that it can help you escape from your day to day life into an austere, alien space.
